Alright Philly fans, we have talked and written a great deal about how these draft picks are looking for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022. If the season were to end today, the Birds’ would have the 3rd, 7th, and 14th overall picks. This type of draft positioning and capital cannot be stressed enough on how it could literally alter franchise history.
Because of the new changes in positioning, this mock draft should have Eagles’ fans foaming at the mouth. As we have stated before, this draft is full of defensive talent and this team desperately needs youth on that side of the ball. Many of the star defensive players that are the Eagles are nearing the end of their peak ability, and it is crucial that this team gets ahead of that.
Now that we have covered all of that, let’s get into some first-round picks.
3rd Overall Pick: Via the Dolphins: The Philadelphia Eagles select-
Kayvon Thibodeaux, Edge : Oregon
It is not even really a debate in this upcoming draft class, Oregon’s defensive end, Kayvon Thibodeaux, is the best overall player in his class. At 6’5” and 250 pounds, Thibodeaux is a perfect combination of speed and power. His ability to have the speed or power to get through any offensive line makes him a day one starter and he's the type of player that opposing teams will have to game plan for. The only knock on the Oregon star is lack of ability playing the run game. In the 4I technique, he needs to be able to get around to tackle the ball carrier. Outside of that, he has the talent to revamp a defense overnight.
However, being the type of player that Kayvon is, it is likely that he will be there for the Eagles to select.
7th Overall Pick: The Philadelphia Eagles select-
Kyle Hamilton, Safety: Notre Dame
We have already discussed Hamilton in a previous mock draft and to be honest the chances of him being there at the 7th spot is slim, but the teams all before the Birds have multiple extreme needs. So, there is always a chance for him to be there. I honestly think that there is a high probability that the Eagles take Hamilton as their first pick in the 2022 draft. If you don’t know much about Notre Dame's safety, we will give a brief recap.
Hamilton is a very rare and intriguing player. He is 6’4”, has speed, size, and an extremely high football IQ. He is physical at the catch point and has the stride to stay in step with some of the best receivers. The biggest knock and really the only one is that due to his size, he can get caught up with not flipping his hips fast enough if going against a twitchy receiver. Outside of that, Hamilton belongs in midnight green.
14th Overall Pick: Via the Colts: The Philadelphia Eagles select-
Ahmad Gardner, Cornerback: Cincinnati
The 3rd year corner for Cincinnati stepped onto the field as a starter his freshman year and never looked back. His size and length make him easily able to jam receivers at the line of scrimmage and he is sticky enough to stay in tight coverage on any routes. Gardner also has the ability to sit into routes and come up to assist with the run and is an outstanding tackler. The major setback with him however is that his aggressiveness sometimes gets the better of him which makes him a penalty target. He also has some issues in trusting his overall ability and he will give more cushion than he sometimes needs to.
