As we are getting near the end of the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2021 season, it is time to start taking a hard look at who this team could be in the market for come free agency. The Birds have had a lot of ups and downs this year and from them some glaring issues (most which we already knew) stuck out even more so.
General Manager, Howie Roseman, did decent in addressing some of the major issues stemming from the 2020 season, but because of little to no cap space, he could not land any major assets to build off of in free agency. However, that does not mean there is not some solid talent that will be available this year. Let’s take a look at some free agents this team should defiantly be interested in.
1. Mike Williams, WR – Chargers.
To be blunt, the Eagles should be all in on the Chargers wide out, Mike Williams. Especially with the likes of JJ Arcega-Whiteside not panning out, having a big body receiver paired up with Quez Watkins and Devonta Smith would make an insanely formidable passing attack.
Williams and the Chargers were trying to get a deal done prior to the start of this season, but contract negations have stalled heavily and it seems that is where they will stay and he will be allowed to hit free agency. Williams is going to be heavily sought after, but the Birds should be able to make it worth his while.
2. Jerry Hughes, Edge- Bills.
Depending on how the draft turns out for this team (like a lot of these picks) edge rusher Jerry Hughes will bring another added element to the Birds’ pass rush. Hughes has been a consistent producer year over year and as he comes towards the back half of his career, he could be a great rotational piece for this defensive front.
3. Nicholas Morrow, LB – Raiders.
Raiders ‘do it all’ linebacker, Nicholas Morrow, would be a great addition for Philly’s linebacker core. Morrow has had a bit of interesting journey into the league as he was a undrafted free agent back in 2017. Last year Morrow recorded 76 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, and 1 interception. Not to bad.
Morrow was poised to have another big year for Las Vegas, but due to a foot injury, he has been on the sideline for the majority of the season. Morrow should peak Jonathan Gannon’s interested fairly heavily.
4. Quandre Diggs, S- Seahawks.
As stated before, this all really is depending upon how the Eagles draft, but they are in need of some safety help and Quandre Diggs might be the guy for them. Diggs has had a solid career inside the NFL and with the Seahawks, but seemingly as that team is starting to come apart, it may be good for him to try and get his career back on track. Even if it is a rotational piece while the Eagles try some of their younger safeties, he can help.
